UK Border Agency Scam
It’s been brought to our attention that scam emails and telephone calls are being made to international students by someone claiming to be from the UK Border Agency. They are very convincing and hold information about you such as your email address, mobile number and other personal details including your address. The emails they send even have UKBA logos that look genuine. DO NOT BE MISLED. There are a number of errors that highlight to us that these communications are fake.
- The Home Office never telephones students
- The Home Office never asks for money to be paid into an account
If you receive such communication, please act quickly:
- Do not disclose any personal details
- Do not pay any money.
- Do contact the police as a matter of urgency
- Do let International Student Advice know.
To report any incidents to the police you can go in person during office hours to Weetwood, Pudsey or Elland Road Police Stations. Alternatively, you can call 101 which for non-emergency situations but still important.
If you need further advice about any such incidents or would like advice regarding your visa, please contact Karen Griffith or Joanne Harrison, International Student Advice.
