For summer 2017 we have 70 volunteer places available for our students across both Latitude and Leeds Festivals. The roles range from Intern opportunities of five weeks duration on the Festival site to numerous on site positions.
All the Latitude and Leeds Festival roles available this year are listed below together with a short description of the duties involved and the skills required for the role.

Roles available in 2017
Production, Licensing and Health and Safety Interns: 5 weeks on Festival site
Production Intern
This is a fantastic opportunity to work onsite within the hub of the Festivals’ organisation where you will be assisting the festival Production Team. It’s a 5 week placement and duties may include: processing catering requests and preparing meal tickets; assisting with accommodation requirements; ordering supplies as directed; answering telephone and radio messages; and dealing with Contractors.
Skills and personal attributes: excellent communication and people skills; good administration and computer skills; reliability; flexibility; initiative; enjoy working as part of a team; working well under pressure; taking responsibility; and studying a relative course at Leeds Beckett. Some technical knowledge would be an advantage. The role involves working long hours (which may include some night time work) but the experience will be unique if you wish to pursue a career in the events sector.
Please note that as a 5 week intern you will need to be able available from Wednesday 21st June 2017 until Friday 21st July 2017 for Latitude or Monday 31st July 2017 until Friday 1st September 2017 for Leeds. You must make your own travel arrangements to the Festival site at which there will be very limited facilities initially and you will be in a relatively remote environment, particularly at Latitude. You will be provided with shared Bunkabin accommodation and a food allowance (you are advised to take your own food to start with) until Crew Catering arrives on site approximately 2 weeks before the Festival.
Health and Safety Intern
Health and Safety is a fundamental component of the management of any event. As a member of the Festival Republic's Health and Safety team you will have the important role of collectingContractors’ Health and Safety documents. As a part of this role you will need to arrange mail out systems, daily reports and manage the Contractor folders. You will need to determine what Health and Safety documents are applicable to different Contractors and check that their documents meet Festival Republic terms and conditions. You will get to see how the Festival is managed and gain valuable work place experience to support any future career in events or festival management.
Skills and personal attributes: excellent communication and people skills; good administration and computer skills particularly in Excel; reliability; flexibility; initiative; enjoy working as part of a team; working well under pressure; and taking responsibility. The role involves working long hours (which may include some night time work) but the experience will be unique if you wish to pursue a career in the events sector.

Licensing Intern
Licensing is key to the Festivals' operation. Working as part of Festival Republic's Licensing team you will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- produce and display signage on site;
- allocate equipment to Contractors;
- general office administration;
- assist in licensing compliance for the event;
- answer queries as people come to the office;
- work as part of a team.
You will be directly involved in the creation of the Festival on site, making valuable contacts and gaining a unique insight behind the scenes.
Skills and personal attributes: excellent communication and people skills; good administration and computer skills, particularly in Excel; reliability; flexibility; initiative; enjoy working as part of a team; working well under pressure; and taking responsibility. It’s crucial that you can adapt to new situations and pitch in when necessary. Stage Crew
Stage Managers
This role involves: ensuring the smooth running of the stage to time schedule together with Production Manager; overseeing bands' arrival and artist liaison; chasing up any late bands; and liaising with stage security. The Stage Manager role will be for the Lake Stage at Latitude Festival and the BBC Introducing Stage at Leeds Festival.

Production Managers
This role will need to: ensure smooth running of the stage to time schedule together with Stage Manager; oversee organisation of backstage area and stage crew; and liaise with sound and lighting engineers and stage security. The Stage Production Manager role will be for the Lake Stage at Latitude Festival and the BBC Introducing Stage at Leeds Festival.

Stage Crew
Stage Crew organise the backstage area, show bands where to put their instruments/equipment and help bands on and off stage if required. There may also be the opportunity to assist sound and lighting engineers. Stage Crew volunteers are needed for the Lake Stage at Latitude Festival and the BBC Introducing Stage at Leeds Festival.

Sound Assistants
Working with a Festival Republic Contractor, this role will assist with the the set up and operation during the Festivals.

Working with a Festival Republic Contractor, this role will assist with the set up and operation during the Festivals.

At Latitude Festival only this role will work with a Festival Republic Contractor, to assist with the set up and operation during the Festival.

Backstage Assistants
Working with a Festival Republic Contractor, this role will assist backstage with anything required. Likely to be given lots of running jobs.

Film Crew
Director/Producers
This role will need to work to a given brief, oversee creative style and format of film and work with the rest of the Film Crew to achieve this. Director/Producers are required to work as part of either Festival Republic or Leeds Beckett Film Crews at the Festivals.

Editors
This role will be required to log tapes and work with Director/Producer to edit the film. You will be editing on-site and may need to finish the film at the Festivals to be screened. Editors are required to work as part of either Festival Republic or Leeds Beckett Film Crews at the Festivals.

Researchers
The Researchers will work with either Festival Republic or Leeds Beckett Film Crews at the Festivals to investigate film locations on-site and report back, find interviewees and brief them before filming.

Sound Engineers
This role will take responsibility for the camera sound working as part of either Festival Republic or Leeds Beckett Film Crews at the Festivals.

Camera Operators
You will operate the camera and film according to a schedule and help with logging of tapes. Camera Operators are required to work as part of either Festival Republic or Leeds Beckett Film Crews at the Festivals.

Media and Photography Crew
Media/Press Tent/Box Office Assistants
Joining Festival Republic’s Press Team with running duties on site including: staffing the press tent and assisting with enquiries; assisting in press box offices; collecting and distributing paper copies for the press; general running and ad hoc duties; keeping the press tent tidy; and additional ad hoc roles like merchandise runs and counts, checking on marketing partners and any extra requirements.

Photographer for Festival Republic
To be part of the Photography team on site at each Festival. You will be given a briefing document of specific shots to take each day. There is a process for uploading and editing and daily reviews of work by Team Manager. There will be time for shadowing certain members of the team to gain more knowledge. Experience required to work in this role is being able to work well in a team as well as having good knowledge of own camera and its settings.

Site Crew
Security Crime Mapping Assistants
Working for Festival Republic, your job will consist of assisting the police and surveillance team to document and report on and incidents on the festival site. You will be situated in the surveillance office and will record and then investigate disturbances, theft and injuries along with other incidents. You will get a unique view of a festival in this role and learn about the security and safety procedures on a festival site.

Performer and Artist Check-In – Latitude Festival Only
The Performer Check-in is the arrival point on site for performers from all Arts Stages, the Kid’s Area and their guests and is where they exchange their tickets for a wristband.
The Check-in assistant is a customer-facing role consisting primarily of the following:
- issuing wristbands to the artists and guests depending on their ticket type
- directing artists/guests to their campsites and stages
- answering general queries about the festival and site

Backstage Support Assistant
Backstage Support Assistants are required across a variety of setting at both Latitude and Leeds Festivals. You could be volunteering backstage at the Alternative Stage, the Lake Stage at Latitude Festival or the BBC Introducing Stage at Leeds Festival or on the Artist Campsite at Latitude Festival. You will be helping to deliver the best possible experience of each artist and this may include:
- helping with Artists’ tents and generally looking after them
- setting up dressing rooms (this may involve lifting) and riders
- keeping Artist and backstage areas clean and tidy
- general administration and running jobs
