As a student here at Leeds Beckett, you may be eligible to apply for scholarships and bursaries that are available to support you in your studies. These are a type of grant that you do not have to repay. They help to financially support students with the costs that come with attending university.
Scholarships
Scholarships at Leeds Beckett are supported through donations by graduates and friends of the university.
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the scholarships you must
- Be the first in your immediate family to attend university
- Have a household income of less than £25,000*
- Have achieved at least 128 UCAS points**
- Be entering your first year of study for your first undergraduate degree**
*£27,500 for Halifax Law Society Scholarship**You must be in your second year of study to apply for the Professor Bligh Scholarship and have been a high achiever in your first year of study
Some scholarships also have other requirements, relating to your course or permanent home address. More information on the criteria can be found below or on our website.

Bright Futures Scholarship
£1,500 award
Each year the generosity of our alumni and friends means that, through the Bright Futures Scholarships, we help to give all our students an equal chance at success while studying with us. Every contributor who has supported these scholarships has made an incredibly valuable decision to offer a brighter future to the next generation of Leeds Beckett students.
The Sir Bob Murray CBE Scholarship
£1,000 award
Sir Bob Murray CBE has funded scholarships at Leeds Beckett since 2012 as a testament to the transformative power of an education at our university. The Sir Bob Murray CBE Scholarships are awarded to support students following in Sir Bob’s footsteps, studying accounting or finance related courses, and who, like Sir Bob, are from the North of England. The aim is to ensure that talented students are given an opportunity to succeed.
Professor Bligh Scholarship
£1,200 award
The Professor Bligh Scholarship seeks to reward students who can show they can think for themselves and argue for their ideas, whilst recognising possible objections and devising a way of testing or criticising their own hypotheses. The scholarship looks for an intellectual rebel; someone prepared to challenge established beliefs, yet able to argue both sides of an issue. This someone is principled and never stops asking questions, but is open minded, not dogmatic.
Paul Wilmott Scholarship
£600 award
The Paul Wilmott Scholarship, which is endowed in perpetuity, was created to celebrate Paul's life and his outstanding contribution to the university. Paul had a lifelong passion for sound recording, live broadcasting and audio engineering. As such, The Paul Wilmott Scholarship supports students studying audio engineering or broadcast media technology.
Andrew Platten Scholarship
£1,500 award
The Andrew Platten Scholarship was established to commemorate Andrew's life and his exemplary contribution to the university. Andrew Platten worked at Leeds Beckett for eight years and published several influential research papers in construction management. The Andrew Platten Scholarship celebrates and reflects Andrew's commitment to widening access to education, teaching in building services and engineering, and building strong international partnerships.
Carnegie Class of 75-77 Scholarship
£1,500 award
The Carnegie Class of 75-77 Scholarship was set up by graduates who studied in the Carnegie School of Physical Education from 1975-77. The idea was to celebrate their time at Carnegie while enabling others to have the same opportunities, emphasising their ongoing connections and friendships as part of ‘the Carnegie family’.
Carnegie Class of 78-82 Scholarship
£1,500 award
The Carnegie Class of 78-82 Scholarship was set up by graduates who studied at the Carnegie School of Physical Education from 1978-82. The graduates wanted to set up the scholarship to help current students have the same opportunities they had, while vicariously celebrating their own time at Carnegie through these students.
Poly Ollies Scholarship
£1,000 award
The Poly Ollies Scholarship was set up by the 'Poly Ollies', Leeds Polytechnic's first ever rugby union team. They were also the first Leeds Polytechnic team to play against the University of Leeds in 1976, besting them on that historic occasion.
Halifax Law Society Scholarship
£1,500 award
Leeds Beckett University has partnered with Halifax Law Society to award the Halifax Law Society Scholarship. Halifax Law Society is the representative body for legal professionals in Calderdale. Alongside Leeds Beckett University, their aim is to support the next generation of legal professionals from the region.

Eligibility criteria
Eligibility varies across all the bursaries. Some bursaries you will be flagged as eligible for based on the information you provide the university on enrolment.

Care Leavers & Estranged Students Bursar
£3,500 across three years
This bursary assists students who are leaving care to attend university; living independently since leaving care or students who are estranged from their family. We recognise that it can be difficult for students to access all the support and advice available to them. We will work with our Employability & Progression team to set-up additional opportunities for students in receipt of the Care Leavers & Estranged Students Bursary to access advice from one of our Careers Consultants.
Primary Carers Bursary
Up to £1,500 award
The bursary is intended to assist full-time undergraduate students who have responsibility as primary carer for a dependant adult that will continue whilst they are studying. There is no formal application process for this bursary. We will use the data provided to us when you complete your online enrolment. If you have indicated that you have responsibility as primary carer for a dependent adult, our Bursary & Scholarship Officer will contact you to advise of possible eligibility for the bursary.
Other available funds
Digital access scheme
£500 voucher
To ensure you can access the enhanced digital learning experience at Leeds Beckett, we are establishing a dedicated fund to provide financial support towards a Windows or Apple laptop. Applications to the fund will be means tested and you must evidence household income and that you have no alternative means of securing a laptop.
More details of the scheme will be released throughout the summer, we are determined to ensure that access to all the benefits of a university education won’t be adversely affected by Covid-19.
Living Expenses Support Scheme
Variable
This is a means tested grant that can support you through your studies. If you fall into financial hardship or anticipate financial hardship related to the current Covid-19 pandemic you may be eligible to apply. This may be due to lost income or issues in getting part time work, or have previously relied on family support which has now reduced. The grant helps in day-to-day living costs such as rent, food, and bills. For more details please consult the main Hardship Fund webpage
Summer Assistance Fund
Variable
The fund provides support outside of term time to priority groups such as parents, care leavers, estranged students, and those medically unable to work. For more details please consult the webpage
Tenancy Deposit Scheme
Up to £200 award
The University is offering support to new full-time undergraduate students, who are having difficulty in paying a deposit for their university accommodation. This is only available for new students who are moving into Leeds Beckett University owned accommodation. Students must have accepted a place at Leeds Beckett University and have applied for their full statutory support before they can apply for this scheme. To apply an applicant needs to contact the accommodation team.
