Why stay in Leeds as a graduate?

Danny Mulley

The one thing we all have in common being a student from Leeds Beckett is that we already know how much it has to offer us as students. From the moment we started our student journey we are greeted with an amazing freshers fair, the gigs put on by the student union, vintage clothes fairs and society’s socials. These events continue the whole way through our studies, but then, you graduate and have the difficult decision of deciding what to do next. Do you go home? Do you stay in Leeds? Go to London? The possibilities are endless. I am in my final year of studying Interior Architecture & Design and am going to talk about my reasons for choosing to stay in Leeds.

Booming Sectors

Leeds has already got so much to offer, but there is currently a huge buzz around a variety of different industries, meaning more and more jobs becoming available all around the city. Leeds has already established itself as the UK’s leading city for financial, legal and professional services, and is the UK’s fastest-growing legal sector. Leeds City Region is a digital powerhouse, combining expertise in creative media, data analytics, cyber security, FinTech, telecoms, health and education technologies with innovative solutions to problems facing today’s businesses.

Additionally, The region is home to an internationally-recognised healthcare and innovation ecosystem, with four out of five NHS national offices and some of the world’s largest healthcare data platforms based in Leeds, alongside world-leading life sciences clusters of academic excellence and commercial innovation. The City Region also enjoys a global reputation for its advanced manufacturing, R&D and product development capabilities, generating more than £7 billion a year. This is supported by strong links between business and academic communities to foster the next generation of manufacturing and engineering leaders.

Leeds' position in the country is brilliant, and its transport links are great. With London being only two hours away on the train, and Liverpool and Manchester less than two hours away, the country’s biggest cities are so easy to get to

Leeds 2023

This year aims to change this, with a huge variety of events throughout the year to bring together communities and showcase what a brilliant city Leeds really is.
