Who is the LBU Graduate Summer Programme for?
The Programme is for final-year undergraduate students who are preparing to graduate in summer 2024.
- It is designed for students who have little or no professional work experience and who are not sure what they want to do when they graduate
- Eligible students will receive a bursary of up to £900 to cover travel and other costs
What is the LBU Graduate Summer Programme?
This programme has been designed to empower you to secure your first graduate job! We want to help you build your confidence and knowledge of the graduate job market through a series of skills development, career learning and networking opportunities.
You will get 1-2-1 guidance during the programme and ongoing support for 12 months until you get the job you want!
The programme runs from Monday 20 May to Monday 24th June (inclusive), with the following key dates:
- 20 - 24 May - Get Ready to Work week - at City campus and site visit for project
- 28 - 31 May - Prepare for your Project week - at City campus and site visit for project
- 3 - 21 June - Graduate-level project with an employer - at employer premises, at LBU, hybrid or remote
- 24 June - project consolidation and action planning - at City campus
Professional development sessions and training
- Get Ready to Work week - professional speakers on topics such as career options, professional behaviour, graduate skills development and applying for jobs
- Prepare for your Project week - including project management, presentation skills and training specific to your project
- 1-2-1 guidance and ongoing support
Graduate-level projects with employers
- Projects provided by Leeds City Council, Leeds Beckett University, national and local charities, third-sector organisations and private companies
- In Leeds, across Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and remote
- Wide range of topics including research, data analysis, social media, event planning, business development, marketing, communication, fundraising campaign planning, people engagement (surveys, interviews and focus groups) and sustainability

Bursary of up to £900 for eligible students
For eligible student a bursary is available to cover travel and other expenses such as missing work shifts and childcare
- Priority is given to students from underrepresented backgrounds. This includes students from a low socio-economic background, an ethnic minority background, with a disability, care-leaver
- Paid at the discretion of Leeds Beckett University, based on attendance and engagement
Attendance and engagement
To complete the programme and receive the bursary (if you are eligible), you need to be available for the following:
- To complete the application form by Sunday 7 April
- For a chat with Beckett Careers about your application and project choices between Thursday 4 and Wednesday 10 April (Eid al-Fitr falls between these dates)
- For an information interview with your project provider between Monday 29 April and Friday 3 May
- to attend a Programme Enrolment session on campus or online during the week starting Tue 7 - Fri 10 May
and
- from Monday 20 May to Monday 24 June (inclusive) to attend sessions at City campus and with your project provider
If you cannot commit to these timescales, there will be other opportunities for you over the summer and into the Autumn.
